What exactly short story is?

In the recent class I was asked what is short story? The first answer that I heard was that it was something that could be read in one sitting and brought an illumination to the reader, sudden and golden like sunlight cracking through heavy cloud and it was closer to poetry than to the novel. this type of story can be read in an hour but remember forever. The theme of novel will not fit in to framework of a short story. The short is an ample of a facet of human nature. Frequently a character undergoes some event and experience something that offers him or her chance. This is why short story tell us something short but sometimes delivered with such precision that the effects are exquisite. The perfect short story is written with such precision and sensitively. The shape, rhythms and sound of the words are more important and the effects are more efficient than the novel. The short stories create a piece of truth, an insight into being human, and the form is so tight and sparse that we could argue over the meanings as long as spending a night for that. The good writers could create a short story by only 600 words. One factor for confusion of pupils often have over the definition of short story is expert and this problem is for the word forms, anecdotes, sketches, vignettes, or slice of life often find their ways into them. In the United Kingdom, there is aual competition for stories, which competitors should create a story with only 60 words. It is fun to create a story with 60 words but in my opinion it isn’t likely to find a place in others mind, I mean, it could not affect on others.
